Road safety is a critical public health issue in Pakistan, with a staggering number of people killed or injured in road traffic crashes every day. The economic cost is also significant, estimated to be 3-5% of Pakistan’s GDP or $8-11 billion US dollars. In 2016, a study found that the cost of road accident fatalities and serious injuries was $12,550 million in Pakistan. To address this issue, both national and provincial-level actions are required in terms of implementing successful interventions from around the world, improving facilities and the environment for walking and cycling, strengthening the institutional and legislative framework, and addressing broader societal and governance issues. Chromatic is dedicated to enhancing public road safety in Pakistan by building capacity and delivering expert services to local authorities and other stakeholders within the country’s legal framework. Well-enforced road safety laws have the potential to save thousands of lives and prevent injuries.
